Supporting people who have Rett Syndrome: I find this
progressive neurological disorder fascinating. I can contribute to understanding the specific language and communication
skills that are associated with this syndrome, and help families and carers provide day to day communication intervention. I am involved in
research looking at how technology can give people
with Rett Syndrome a way to show they understand. There are several pages about Rett Syndrome on this site.

communication, creating opportunities through
Intensive Interaction and Individualised Sensory Environments so
individuals can reach their potential.
Applying Total
Communication Strategies, utilising Augmentative and Alternative
Communication (AAC): low, light, and high tech solutions to open doors
for effective communication, and provide a voice for those who cannot
speak for themselves.
Supporting individuals
to eat and drink safely, and helping carers to understand that
meal times can still be enjoyable even when dietary modifications are
necessary.
Developing skills and
knowledge in others through training, workshops and coaching, encouraging them
to create opportunities for people with Learning Disabilities.
Supporting other
clinicians through supervision and coaching to develop their
professional skills.
